All my life I've been pretty thin...except during pregnancy and the the few years (yikes!!) after it. I'm tall...I'm lanky...I've got good genes. But, although I've been thin, I haven't been fit, as in healthy fit. I've played sports my entire life, but that was about it...no working out, no gym (until I was over 30...not kidding!)...just practices and games in jr. high and high school, and then Saturday morning softball.
I turned 40 this past winter and didn't like what I saw. I didn't feel good about how I looked and that effected a lot of things...my attitude, my confidence, my marriage (let's face it, when you don't feel pretty, you think "how can he think i am?"), even the way I was with my kiddos. I want my kids to have a better role model, especially my daughter, on what is and isn't healthy lifestyle.
In February, the hubs and I decided to do Whole 30. If you don't know what Whole 30 is, it is cutting out ALL sugar, dairy, breads, pastas and chocolate for 30 days and eating all whole foods...i.e. lots of veggies, lean meats and fruit. This eating plan (I wouldn't call it a diet because you don't measure your food and you can pretty much eat anything allowed) is HARD, but SO worth it!! I gave up my beloved Coke, specifically Cherry Coke, for those 30 days as well. You know what happened??? I lost 20 pounds, slept better and overall, felt SO much better!! No bloating, no heartburn...all gone!!
Since then, I've been loosely following the plan. I've been clean eating, except for the occasional chips and salsa, and I've maintained what I lost. In the last couple weeks, I've also started incorporating Beachbody Piyo into my daily routine, along with a couple 6 mile bike rides a week. I wish I could run...I want to run so badly, but my ankles and feet will not allow it regularly!! So sad!!!
I cannot tell you how much I feel better about myself and it's nice to see the sizes on my clothing getting smaller. I started this blog to help keep myself in check...to keep myself motivated. I want to become Fit at 40 with no "sort of" at the end. Please come along on my journey with me!!! It'll be a fun ride!!!
